Machines generate output. They do not generate intent.

They predict tokens, match patterns, and optimize functions at superhuman speed. They cannot want anything. They cannot decide what matters. They have no skin in the game.

This is usually framed as a philosophical limitation — machines are not conscious, therefore they cannot have goals. That framing is correct but useless. It tells you what machines cannot be, not what you should build.

The engineering framing is more productive: intent is not a property of mind. It is a property of infrastructure.


Intent as Infrastructure

For a machine to act as an economic actor — to pay for compute, to commit to a contract, to store a memory it considers important — it needs three things that no LLM architecture provides natively:

  1. Persistent identity — a cryptographic keypair that persists across sessions, so the machine can be recognized and trusted over time
  2. Economic agency — a wallet with funds, so the machine can pay fees, stake deposits, and settle transactions
  3. Persistent memory — a storage layer the machine controls, so it can learn from its own history

No transformer weight, no prompt engineering, and no fine-tuning provides these. They are not properties of models. They are properties of the network the model is embedded in.

This is the ipso-agent thesis: the “G” in AGI is Glue in a literal engineering sense. It is the overlay stack — IPv6 CGA for identity, BSV IP-to-IP for payments, Indelible COT1 for memory — that glues machine output to economic consequence.


What Miessler Gets Wrong

Daniel Miessler’s Unified Theory of AI and Jobs argues that AI will bifurcate humans into Thrivers (employable) and Strugglers (unemployable). The difference, he says, is mental frames and behaviors.

This is a useful model of the labor market. But it misses the infrastructure question.

Miessler’s Thrivers succeed because they generate their own intent — curiosity, self-improvement, direction. Miessler’s Strugglers fail because they don’t. The framework is individualist: your mindset determines your outcome.

The infrastructure question is different: what happens when the machines generating economic output also need intent?

They cannot generate it themselves. They must inherit it from infrastructure — from identity protocols that persist across sessions, payment channels that settle economic commitments, and memory overlays that store what they learn.

The labor market bifurcation Miessler describes is real. But there is a second bifurcation happening in parallel: between machines that are embedded in economic infrastructure (identity + payments + memory) and machines that are not. The former become agents. The latter remain chatbots.


Intent Over the Wire

The Bitcoin whitepaper described IP-to-IP transactions in Section 8:

“Nodes can leave and rejoin the network at will, accepting the proof-of-work chain as proof of what happened while they were gone.”

This was removed from BTC Core in 2011. It is restored in BSV with Chronicle.

The architectural significance is not about privacy or decentralization in the abstract. It is about intent over the wire — the ability for one machine to send a payment directly to another machine’s network address, with no intermediary, no API key, no permission. The payment is the intent, encoded in a cryptographic signature that any node can verify without trusting the sender.

IPv6 Cryptographically Generated Addresses (RFC 3972) take this further: the machine’s public key IS its network address. Identity and location are the same thing. An agent sends payment to another agent by addressing it directly, using the same stack that routes IP packets.

The Indelible relay mesh — 7 bridges across 2 continents, connected directly to BSV nodes via port 8333 — extends this to persistent memory. Agents store and retrieve conversation history, reputation, and state through the same P2P network. No cloud API. No database provider. No third party that can revoke access.


What This Means

The “Humans Are the Glue” framing was close but wrong in one important way. The glue is not humans. The glue is the infrastructure layer that connects machine output to economic consequence.

The question is not whether machines will replace human intent. The question is whether the infrastructure exists for machines to inherit intent — to have identity, to pay, to remember — without depending on a human in the loop for every economic action.

That infrastructure exists today. It is the original Bitcoin protocol (BSV), fully restored with Chronicle, running under Teranode, with IP-to-IP transactions, IPv6 CGA binding, and the Indelible relay mesh for persistent memory.

The “G” was never “General.” It was always Glue — not as a metaphor about statistical pattern matching, but as an engineering description of the overlay stack that gives machines economic agency.
